Discover the castles of Sigulda, Cēsis, and Turaida on a day trip from Riga. Explore the ruins and towers of Cēsis Castle, visit the museum inside the New Castle, and see the medieval role-play activities. Stop for lunch at a local family restaurant to have a nice local meal.
Start your day with a pickup from your hotel in Riga and head to your first stop, Turaida Castle. Climb the tower for views, explore exhibitions on medieval warfare and Livonian history, and see the Folk Song Hill (Dainu Kalns) – a sculpture park celebrating Latvian folk traditions.
Continue to Maija Grave (Rose of Turaida) – a local legend commemorated with a touching monument. Visit the Liv People’s Ancient Settlement Site, based on archaeological excavations, and see the historic manor buildings, including a smithy, granary, and residential house.
Next, head to Sigulda Castle. Enjoy panoramic views of the Gauja River Valley from old castle towers, see art exhibitions and craft workshops (jewelry, leather, silk painting) in castle buildings, and explore restored castle walls, watchtowers, and medieval-style weapons.
Visit the sculpture garden and manor park surrounding the new castle before continuing to Cēsis Castle. Walk the castle ruins, towers, and defensive walls, visit the museum inside the New Castle, and explore the castle garden and park.
