Description
Founded in 1924, the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum is one of Europe’s oldest and largest open-air museums. It features 118 relocated buildings from Latvia’s historical regions—Kurzeme, Vidzeme, Zemgale, and Latgale—dating from the late 17th century to the 1930s.
Visitors can explore farmsteads representing farmers, craftsmen, and fishermen, with exhibitions of period-specific household items, furniture, and tools that reflect the district and owner.
The museum operates year-round. From May to September, artisans such as potters, weavers, blacksmiths, and woodworkers demonstrate traditional crafts. Annual events include the Applied Folk Art Fair on the first weekend in June and seasonal celebrations like solstice festivals.
