Description
This guided tour departs from your hotel in Latvia and heads 130 km south to visit the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania. After crossing the Latvian-Lithuanian border, there is an opportunity for a coffee break before continuing approximately 30 km to the destination.
The Hill of Crosses, near the town of Šiauliai, is a symbolic site covered with thousands of crosses of various sizes and materials. It represents faith, hope, and freedom, surviving attempts at destruction during the Soviet era. In 1993, Pope John Paul II held a service here and sent a crucifix that now stands on the hill. Pilgrims often begin and end their spiritual journeys at this location.
Visitors can place their own cross on the hill. The site holds cultural and historical significance for both locals and tourists. Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes exploring and photographing the area. The hill is especially impactful at sunrise and sunset.
