Meet your guide, a Doctor of Theology and Master of History, who will introduce you to the history and culture of Latvia from the 13th century to the present day. Learn about who ruled Riga from 1201 to 1914, the base of Riga’s economy in the Middle Ages and later, the faith and language of Latvians, Latvian folk songs, the birth of the first Latvian intellectuals in the 19th century, the 1905 revolution, World War I and Latvia’s liberation war, the Latvian Republic in before 1st world war, the destinies of Latvians in the USSR, and the most interesting stories of spying in Latvia. Next, head to Riga’s Old Town and see all the main sights, including the Powder Tower, Swedish Gates, Three Brothers (houses of Riga’s craftsmen of the Middle Ages), St. Jacob’s Cathedral, Riga Castle, Anglican Church, Stock Exchange, Dom Cathedral, Black Cat House, Guilds Buildings, Town Hall Place, Blackheads House, and St. Peter’s Church. Learn why Riga is known as the town of Sherlock Holmes and hear the true story of Latvian Cinderella, probably the most fantastic story of the 18th century.
