Description
We go by car from Riga to Skaistkalne, Latvia. Here are a few shops in case you want to buy some food or drinks and I will show you where we will arrive. We will walk across the bridge to Germaniskis in Lithuania. After that we will drive further to the start location of the kayak tour, which is at the Lithuanian side of the border. While I prepare the boat(s) you can make a small walk to the devil's cave ( if you are not afraid ! ). Opposite on the Latvian side there is the possibility to visit the Skaistkalne sinkholes, a geological and geomorphological natural monument. The territory of 100 ha is included in the natura 2000 list of European protected areas. (this visit must be arranged with a local guide prior to the start of the activity) Further downstream we will see a historic watermill, a school and one of the biggest catholic churches of Latvia before we will end our kayak trip just before the bridge of Skaistkalne. On the way back to Riga we will visit the biggest inland dune in Latvia. Climbing the stairs results in a great photo spot where you are about at the same hight as the opposite trees! There is also the possibility to visit ' the garden of god ' , a life work of Juri of religious figures carved out of oaks. He also made carousels, a small museum,... In the end he usually plays a small game. His apples are very tasty! (this visit must be agreed prior to the activity starts) Please note that you will have to possess the skill of swimming to participate in this activity although we will not swim but kayak! It is also obliged to wear a life jacket which I provide! The river is very calm and easy to navigate so ok for beginners but it's Latvian law to wear a life jacket when doing watersports! Because we are crossing an international border it's obliged to bring your ID CARDS AND PASSPORTS! Some people prefer to go by themselves on the river which is perfectly fine by me, some people prefer that I go with them on the river which is also great, I just need to know by forehand to make logistic arrangements :-) I have 2-person kayaks , normally 4 people is the maximum (in this case I don't go on the river) or maximum 3 people (in this case I join on the river). I can also host bigger groups but then I must ask other people for the logistics and I need to know by forehand so please let me know :-)Includes
