Description

Less than an hour-long ride from Riga will bring you to Sigulda, a charming town in the heart of the Gauja National Park, the largest and oldest national park in Latvia. Sigulda is known as the Switzerland of Latvia, offering some of the most beautiful sceneries in the whole country. In winter, Sigulda is the most popular place for spending a lovely day outside Riga and enjoying some fun activities, exploring castles and nature wonders. Sigulda is famous for its long bobsleigh history – the first bobsleigh track was built in the 19th century, and this winter sport is still the trademark of Sigulda. On this tour, you will have a chance to try out the Sigulda Bobsleigh Track by sliding down on the soft-bob and reaching up to 80 km/h. Sounds fun? It is! Although bobsleigh is one of the most extreme winter sports, you don’t need any prior experience in bobsleigh to enjoy a soft-bob ride. Later, you will explore the Sigulda Castle Complex which consists of two castles built in different centuries. Sigulda Medieval Castle Ruins mark the beginnings of Sigulda as a town while Sigulda New Castle serves as a wonderful example of a 19th-century manor house and is famous for unique 20th-century interiors in the style of national romanticism. Take your time and discover the history of the region, climb the tower, and enjoy a great view of the Gauja River valley. Before returning to Riga, visit the impressive Gutman’s Cave – the biggest cave in the Baltics and the oldest tourist attraction in Latvia.
